At the Carlos Beltrán Baseball Academy (CBBA) in Puerto Rico, educators are embracing this idea. Earlier this year, 25 classroom teachers, baseball coaches, and school administrators participated in Ahura AI’s three-day AI Intensive masterclass via Zoom – and came away feeling inspired, energized, and ready to transform their teaching practice.
Here’s how their AI learning journey unfolded.
From AI Explorers to AI Leaders
During their first Zoom session, the CBBA team experienced a rapid shift in mindset, from initial hesitation – “I’m not so sure about this AI stuff” – to genuine excitement about the possibilities.
Being able to connect to the value of AI in their own personal and professional lives motivated them to become curious learners and, eventually, AI leaders themselves. This transformation is the cornerstone of our AI masterclass.
Participants quickly grasped the usefulness of AI tools. They collaborated in exploring various use cases to help them in their day-to-day lives as coaches and teachers. In fact, CBBA Director Orlando Melendez noted that the buzz of AI conversations continued across campus long after our morning sessions had ended.
This is exactly what we love to see! AI explorers don’t have to go it alone. With peer collaboration and the structured guidance from our AI Intensive, participants can embrace these new tools and gain the confidence to engage, benefit, share, teach, and learn on an ongoing basis.
As experienced educators and expert facilitators, the Ahura AI team designed the masterclass with active learning in mind. We centered participants as active drivers of their AI journey, with a hand in shaping their own learning experiences. Here’s how.
Session by Session: Structured AI Learning
To deepen understanding and foster real-world application, each masterclass session focused on the following themes:
Day 1: AI Explorers at CBBA
- Exploring how AI learning is critical in today’s world, with facts, stats, and research about why it matters for us and our students and what its benefits are.
- Trying out various AI tools and experimenting with use cases in a way that approaches AI as a support instead of a crutch.
Day 2: AI Leaders in the Classroom
- Making connections between content area standards, student needs, and AI tools and topics.
- Creating AI learning experiences and lessons for students, both in the classroom and on the baseball field.
Day 3: AI Leaders in the Community
- Sharing AI-centered lesson ideas with peers to spark even more enthusiasm, creativity, and teamwork.
- Learning how to talk about AI use, ethics, and safety with everyone involved in the school – from staff and students to families.
During our three-day AI integration journey, we saw a rapid transformation as our team embraced AI, shifting from initial hesitation to leadership by connecting AI tools to future learning and workforce readiness. The team became AI explorers, gaining confidence and competence through collaborative learning. Our focus on peer leadership led to the development of strategies for AI engagement across the entire CBBA community, impacting classrooms, playing fields, and homes.
With support from the CBBA executive director, the Ahura AI team was able to bridge language barriers and cater to the unique needs of two distinct school staff groups – classroom teachers and baseball coaches. This added complexity made the program’s success all the more rewarding.
We saw participants engage at multiple levels throughout the masterclass, exploring AI for themselves, for their students, and for the broader community. At every level, AI is becoming a crucial element in forward-thinking education – and we’re thrilled to be paving the way for its transformative impact.
