It’s pretty mind-blowing that the use of AI can lift so many workers to the top tier of performance! But there’s a catch. Some tasks are currently still just outside the capabilities of these AI tools.

The researchers came up with a niche task that used AI’s blind spots to increase the chances that ChatGPT would provide a wrong-but-convincing answer to a problem that humans could solve. The result was that human consultants got the problem right 84.5% of the time on their own – but when using AI, they got it right only 60-70% of the time.
One of the co-authors of the study report, Ethan Mollick, summarized it well: “On some tasks AI is immensely powerful, and on others it fails completely or subtly. And, unless you use AI a lot, you won’t know which is which.”
The bottom line? GenAI tools, including ChatGPT and hundreds of others, can enhance human performance so much that you can’t afford not to take advantage of them.
